Anderson has something to prove
Courtesy Edmonton Journal:
In the Edmonton Eskimos clubhouse, Damien Anderson goes by the handle of D.A., as in district attorney.
Still, the 28-year-old is not about to overstate his case for fans of the Green and Gold to relax over the state of the running game.
Anderson played 35 games over four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, but he realizes an National Football League pedigree is no guarantee of success north of the 49th parallel.
“I think I’m pretty good,” said Anderson, the undisputed No. 1 tailback for the Eskimos. “But by no means do I say I’m great or that I’m at the level of guys who have won Grey Cup championships.
“Until we do that, I won’t even mention my name in the same context.”
Anderson remains some what of an enigma after checking in with the Eskimos near the end of the 2007 football season.
In five games, Anderson carried the ball 43 times for 225 yards and caught seven passes for 62 yards.
Those numbers are not exactly dazzling, but the five-foot-11, 218-pounder played behind an injury-decimated offensive line.
Quarterback Ricky Ray also missed the final five games of the season with a shoulder injury.
“We’re really high on Damien Anderson,” said head coach Danny Maciocia. “We still think he’s going to be a pretty good back in this league.”
