The Toronto Argonauts signed defensive back Chuck Winters to a contract extension Wednesday that will keep him with the CFL club through the 2009 season.

The Argos also signed cornerback Kellan Quick and defensive back Jason Shivers and released veteran running back Troy Davis.

Winters registered a career-high 38 tackles in 2007 after moving from linebacker to defensive back. But the former Michigan star also showed his versatility by seeing action at linebacker as well as on special teams, a fact not lost upon new Argos head coach Rich Stubler.
