Argos release Mookie Mitchell

At 10 a.m. yesterday the Argonauts announced the signing of a trio of import receivers – Cedric Bonner, David Gray and Matt Miller – whose names undoubtedly prompted the question: “Who?”
But then that’s the same reaction that likely greeted the signing of Derrell Mitchell on a similarly chilly winter day prior to the opening of the 1997 training camp.
By the middle of that season, however, fans were hailing Mitchell by his nickname, Mookie, as he began his 11-year run towards becoming the Argos’ all-time leading receiver.
The Argos are undoubtedly hoping that one of the newcomers might step into the void created with yesterday’s announcement that the 36-year-old Mitchell had been released.
