Armour declared fit to play
Courtesy Calgary Herald:
Good news for the Calgary Stampeders: JoJuan Armour’s ticker is officially tickety-boo.
A heart murmur that was discovered during the veteran linebacker’s pre-training camp physical kept him out of practice until a series of tests could assess the potential threat of the condition.
He took the final test on Friday, and was declared fit to play (officially, that is; he snuck in for some practice reps on Thursday without an official team sanction) and returned to his starting spot for Friday afternoon’s practice.
“Everything was good, everything was perfect,” smiled Armour afterwards. “They were looking for some kind of malfunction, and I could have told them ahead of time there wasn’t going to be any.
“They obviously haven’t seen me play.”
Armour was put through three tests to determine if the heart murmur–in essence, an abnormal sound made during the regular heartbeat–would have an affect.
“They said it was minor; they said they were surprised they even picked it up,” said Armour.
“It is a relief; at first, it was kind of nerve-racking, but after all the tests, I’m relieved that everything is done.”
So relieved, in fact, that he was in a joking mood about the situation.
“I rigged my EKG; I needed a couple days off for these old legs,” he said with a laugh.
“I gave it a lot of thought before camp and everything worked out perfectly. Actually, it worked out a little good. I wanted to wait until next week for the first pre-season game. But it worked it OK.”
