Bombers add Sleightholm

Courtesy Winnipeg Free Press:

THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added University of Windsor defensive lineman Kyle Sleightholm to their roster, claiming him in the waiver-wire process for undrafted players that follows the CFL’s Canadian draft.

A 6-foot-5, 295-pound product of Chatham, Ont., Sleightholm will most likely be converted to the offensive line. He was the Lancers top lineman in 2007.

He’ll join Daryl Stephenson, drafted by the Bombers this week, and receiver Arjei Franklin as former Lancers in this month’s training camp.

Bombers general manager Brendan Taman also offered a status report on two veteran CFLers — former Bombers cornerback Juran Bolden and linebacker Scott Coe, the former U of M Bison who was released this winter by the Calgary Stampeders.

On Bolden: “Hopefully we’ll have a better idea of where we’re at with the cap in the next week and then what we’ll try to do is make our pitch and see if we can still salvage something with him. I don’t like my chances. I haven’t given up, but I haven’t figured out a way to make it work, either.”

On Coe: “I told his agent that we’d love to have him, but he’s not going to start for us right away, which means he’s got to make non-starting money. If he’s willing to do that, we’d love to have him. But he’s not going to beat out Barrin Simpson or Ike Charlton or Cam Hall. I haven’t heard anything back.”
