Bombers have work to do before camp
Courtesy Winnipeg Free Press:
It was a little tidbit the GM of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers wasn’t entirely interested in receiving j-u-s-t yet: 2008 CFL training camps officially open in 39 days on June 1. “Honestly, I can’t think that far ahead right now,” began Brendan Taman. “We’re living day by day right now with all the things we’ve got to get done before then. That’s just the way it is around here. Always has been, always will be.” And so, as the Bomb Squad enters the stretch run before camp, here are the things atop Taman’s to-do list:
FREE-AGENT CAMPS
“When: Bomber staffers have been in Los Angeles, Dallas and Jackson, Miss., and will be at upcoming camps in Atlanta and Tampa. “รถ The end goal: Find a decent prospect at any position. An example: B.C. Lions QB Buck Pierce was discovered at a similar free-agent tryout. The Bomber camps in L.A. and Jackson were stacked in talent, but thin in Dallas.
The Bombers hope to sign at least two players from the five workouts to bring to Winnipeg. “You never know with these things because anything can happen,” Taman said. “And once the NFL draft takes place (April 26-27) the camps, especially in Atlanta, will be pretty well attended because a lot of guys who were hoping to get picked but weren’t may then be looking for work.”
