Bombers release Richie and Tyrone Williams

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced today that they have released veteran import quarterback Richie Williams and veteran import defensive tackle Tyrone Williams.

Richie Williams was the Bombers third string quarterback and saw his only action of the season in last Friday’s game against the Toronto Argonauts. Williams completed 3 of 10 passes this season for 30 yards.

Williams spent his first three seasons in the CFL with the Hamilton Ticats before signing with Winnipeg last off-season. In his four seasons in the CFL Williams has passed for 2,107 yards and 11 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions in 53 games.

His best season was in 2008 for the Tiger-Cats where he completed 60 of 100 passes for 984 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing 43 times for 307 yards.

Tyrone Williams appeared in one game for Winnipeg this season recording two tackles. He was acquired by the Blue Bombers this off-season after spending the previous seven years with the BC Lions where he was named a two-time Western Division All-Star.

Before coming to the CFL Williams spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins of the NFL. Williams has recorded 344 tackles, 27 sacks, recovered four fumbles and one interception during his CFL career.
