The Winnipeg Blue Bombers upgraded their receiving corps and special teams units with the signing of import pass-catcher and kick returner Dan Sheldon on Tuesday.
Sheldon was a free agent signee of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007 and attended training camp with the team. He spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, who assigned him to the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe. He finished second in the league in kickoff returns that year with a 25.1-yard average.
”Dan Sheldon is a versatile, athletic player who has impressed us with his skills and knowledge of the game,” said Bombers general manager Brendan Taman. ”We are anxious to see what he can contribute to our football club when training camp begins.”
In 2006, he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent. He was later waived by the Colts and subsequently joined the Chicago Bears and spent time on their practice roster. In 2005, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent and spent time on the team’s practice roster.
