Burris Picks Riders to Win Grey Cup

TORONTO — Saskatchewan Roughriders supporters might want to temper any lingering hostility toward Henry Burris. After all, he is one of them.
The Calgary Stampeders quarterback, who left Saskatchewan amid considerable rancor in 2005, makes no secret of the fact that he is cheering for his former CFL team as it prepares for Sunday’s Grey Cup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
“Just with friendships, I want to see these guys enjoy the feeling and hopefully get a victory,” Burris said after a Roughriders practice at the Rogers Centre.
Burris hopes for and expects a Saskatchewan victory over a Bombers team that is without its starting quarterback, Kevin Glenn, due to a broken arm. Glenn has been replaced by Ryan Dinwiddie, who is poised to make his first CFL start.
“Even with Kevin Glenn out there, I still would have picked Saskatchewan,” Burris said. “Right now, they have destiny written on their side. With Kevin Glenn being on the sidelines, it’s much easier to say that. I think Ryan Dinwiddie’s going to come out and he’s going to play well.”
Burris expects the Roughriders’ defence, designed by co-ordinator Richie Hall, to attempt to confuse Dinwiddie with a variety of different looks and zone blitzes.
“In the end, I think Saskatchewan’s going to take it,” Burris said. “We can finally dust off the cobwebs and take the spider webs off the ’89 Grey Cup and polish it and put it in the trophy case. Hopefully everyone can talk about 2007.”
Burris is in Toronto during Grey Cup week to work as an analyst for The Score. With that in mind, what will be the score of Sunday’s game?
“Oooh,” Burris said, pausing. “I’m saying 29-20.”
