Campbell placed on Bucs injured reserve
Courtesy Edmonton Journal:
Kelly Campbell isn’t going anywhere, just yet.
According to the Tampa Tribune, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have retained the former Edmonton Eskimos receiver, despite waiving the 29-year-old through the National Football League.
Campbell cleared waivers on Sunday, but remains on the team’s injured reserve list as he mends a quadriceps injury that has plagued him the last few weeks. Injured players who clear waivers automatically go on injured reserve and he will remain there until he is 100 per cent and the team decides to either play him or release him.
The latter is expected in this case, opening a chance to move elsewhere in the NFL or return to the Eskimos, who retain his Canadian Football League rights.
The NFL is an unlikely option at this time, considering teams are cutting down and there are a number of receivers available.
It is possible that Campbell returns to Edmonton within two or three weeks, one source stated. His agent, Jack Reale, was not available for comment.
