Can’t keep Lion away

Courtesy Vancouver Province:

It was almost as if Paris Jackson were felled by sniper fire. Running one second. Down on the ground in apparent agony the next.

There’d have been no bigger blow for the Lions than if their leading receiver couldn’t play against the Alouettes on Friday at B.C. Place.

But Jackson insisted after his practice work had been cut short Wednesday by the seemingly-scary incident that he’ll be good to go.

“The tackle [Daren Heerspink] just kicked back a little and he went right into my knee. It’s just tight and sore, more like a bone or muscle bruise, but I’ll be playing,” said Jackson, who’s second in the CFL with 41 receptions so far.

He’s on pace for the first 1,200-yard receiving season of his career.

So the passing-game adjustment to be made by the Lions will only consist of the additional use of Ryan Grice-Mullen at the expense of Rufus Skillern, who is not expected to dress.

Ian Smart will get the occasional opportunity on offence in his first game back since the July 3 season opener, but will be primarily used on returns.

Nautyn McKay-Loescher is back to rotate along the defensive line at the expense of backup import offensive lineman Bobby Singh.

Jeremy Gibbs will reclaim his defensive tackle spot that was left for Jonathan Williams to fill against Winnipeg. Reserve lineman Terna Nande will play after the release this week of fellow import Gary Butler.
