The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have opted to make Lebanon-born centre Marwan Hage one of the best-paid offensive linemen in the Canadian Football League.
The four-year Tiger-Cat veteran has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him in black and gold until after the 2010 season.
While terms of the new deal weren’t announced, club president Scott Mitchell confirmed Hage’s pay stubs will compare favourably with the highest-paid colleagues who toil in the trenches.
Hage, 27, was the Tabbies’ best offensive lineman last season. He was named a 2007 CFL all-star.
“We’re thrilled to have Marwan here. It is an incredibly important signing for our franchise. I think it sends the right message to our team and to our players that we’re on the right track,” Mitchell said during a media conference yesterday to announce the new pact.
The six-foot-two, 291-pound Hage, who the Cats drafted in the second round (14th overall) in the 2004 Canadian College Draft, said he hopes to finish his career in Steeltown.
