CFL DIGEST EXCLUSIVE: Well ‘Red’ (August 6)
Courtesy Stan Peters of CFL Digest:
There may have been a good chunk of green in the stands on Saturday, but Stampeders and their fans are seeing red as they gear up for the rematch in Regina Thursday.
Seeing red because of the embarrassing call, a new league low, that set the tone for the game. You know the call, the one that saw the Stamps have to re-tool their scheme for stopping the always dangerous Wes Cates, just two plays into the contest.
Seeing red because of dropped balls, uncharacteristic drops, by the likes of Brett Ralph and Jermaine Copeland.
Seeing red because of the squandered opportunity to knock off an inferior visiting squad, (inferior, granted, due to a rash of injuries that really should have seen the home squad run away with the opener.)
Seeing red because of the disrespect shown by many Rider fans, who hurled beer cans along with obscenities in the stands, and felt brave enough with their throng behind them to heckle the home team’s players bench mercilessly throughout the game.
There should be no need to post anything on the visitor’s dressing room wall, no need for Hufnagel to peel the paint either. Even if there were 3 months between these two games, the stank of that game would not be gone for the crew from Calgary, and the short week should have them ready to tear limb-from-limb anything green that gets in the way come Thursday.
There’s an angry bunch of football players headed for the Queen City, and something tells me come Friday morning, it’ll be Gang Green that’s seeing red.
God I love football.
