Chang hoping for big day
Courtesy Hamilton Spectator:
It’s been almost 12 months to the day that Tiger-Cat quarterback Timmy Chang played his best Canadian Football League game.
Unfortunately for the University of Hawaii-product, it would prove to be his first and only sensational outing of the season.
Chang entered the Cats’ first preseason contest June 14 at Canad Inn Stadium, taking over for an ineffective starter Shaun King, and lit up the Manitoba skies.
When it was over the Cats had scored a victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers behind Chang’s 10 for 17 for 239-yards and two touchdown performance.
It was all downhill from there for Chang. While he had a few more starts, Chang would finish the miserable season running scout kick-off drills in practice as he lost his backup job to Richie Williams.
Chang finished the season completing 42 of 89 for 467 yards with one touchdown and, count ‘em, seven interceptions.
But Chang will get a chance to duplicate his first pre-season heroics tomorrow night when the Ticats host the Blue Bombers. This one is at Ivor Wynne. Chang, who enters this season third on the Cat QB depth chart, is expected to see action in the third and fourth quarters.
