Chiu to return in 2009

Bryan Chiu will be back with the Montreal Alouettes in 2009.
The team announced Thursday the veteran centre had extended his contract for the coming season.
“I am thrilled to be able to continue my career with the team that believed in me back in 1997,” Chiu said in a release. “Last year was very special for me and I am already looking forward to training camp in 2009 and to continue building on what we started.”
There had been some thought the centre would retire following the Alouettes loss to the Calgary Stampeders in the Grey Cup.
Chiu and the Montreal offensive line had a solid campaign in 2008 and four of the five starters earned All-Stars nods in the East. In addition to the conference honour, Chiu was also selected as a CFL All-Star.
The Alouettes offensive line allowed a team record low 22 sacks last season.
