The B.C. Lions have called a news conference for Monday where they are expected to announce that the team is releasing quarterback Dave Dickenson.

The veteran CFL pivot has already made it known that he wants to play next season.

The Lions are expected to offer Dickenson a new contract, but at a significantly reduced rate.

Dickenson began the season as the Lions starter, but suffered a concussion July 13 in a game against Saskatchewan. The concussion was Dickenson’s third in less than two years.

Dickenson was named Most Outstanding Player as the Lions won the 2006 Grey Cup.
