Dunbrack not ready to call it a career

A decade of pro ball. Nine different head coaches. Scores of GMs. Former Tiger-Cat defensive lineman Roger Dunbrack says he has seen it all over the course of his pro career.

But the Dundas native yearns for more. Released this off-season by the Ticats after three years of service in the black and gold, Dunbrack is working out and hoping for a phone call that will signal the resumption of his football career.

Cat GM Bob O’Billovich confirmed this week Dunbrack, who turns 35 in October, and fellow Tabbie veteran Pascal Cheron have been released. Both hope to catch on with another club for the coming season.

But Dunbrack, a quiet but intense warrior of the trench wars, departs with no bitterness.

“Bob O’Billovich was upfront with me. He is a straight shooter. It’s just the nature of the business. But I still want to play. I still have a great passion for the game,” he said.

Dunbrack played 11 contests with the Cats last season and became a starter late in the season when injuries hit the defensive wall. He played well in relief.

“But, in my 10 years, I’ve played for nine different head coaches and a lot of different GMs. And, any time a team struggles, there are changes,” he said.
