Ebell’s season over

If there’s karma in football, then the Toronto Argonauts must have done something really awful to offend the running back gods.
A year after injuries resulted in a revolving door in the Argo backfield, the door is starting to spin again.
The team was given the worst news possible on newcomer Tyler Ebell, who will undergo surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon today after injuring it on the fourth day of training camp. Ebell, who was acquired from Edmonton along with import receiver T.J. Acree for all-star cornerback Jordan Younger, is done for the season.
Ebell made a brief appearance at the Argo camp at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus yesterday, a tensor bandage encasing his left leg from foot to knee and crutches in hand, but wasn’t up to talking about his situation.
That was left to coach Rich Stubler, who said he was encouraged by Ebell’s conditioning and performance in the first three full-team workouts.
“It was very unfortunate, it was just catching his cleat a little bit,” he said. “That’s one of those curves they throw you that you whiff (on), so you just have to start again.”
Stubler said the recuperation time for Achilles surgery was about 10 months and hoped to have Ebell back in training camp next spring.
The team wasted no time in starting again, trading non-import cornerback and special teams player Leron Mitchell to Saskatchewan for import running back Jamal Robertson, whose last game experience was with the Carolina Panthers three years ago.
