Edmonton Eskimos hire new senior offensive consultant

Richie Hall has added to his coaching staff with the hiring of former Edmonton Eskimos receivers coach Kevin Strasser.
Strasser, who worked in Edmonton for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, was announced as the team’s senior offensive consultant late Friday afternoon.
The former Oregon State receiver has spent the last two years as the receivers coach with the Portland State Vikings, working with head coach Jerry Glanville and offensive co-ordinator Mouse Davis, both well known and respected.
Strasser was contacted this winter in regards to the Esks’ offensive coordinator’s position.
The timing wasn’t right back in December, said Strasser, 38, who along with wife Jeannette, were trying to establish their family in the Portland area. He will work closely with Worman, as well as receivers coach Jason Tucker.
“There will be some game planning. We’ll share ideas and bounce ideas off one another,” said a delighted Strasser, who also worked for the Montreal Alouettes from 2002 to 2006.
“His specialty is the passing aspect of the game,” said Hall. “But he’s coached receivers here previously and in other places. It really is a win, win situation because of what he’s done and what he brings here.
“His work in Montreal speaks for itself. It was a pretty high-powered offence. I know it caused us fits,” added Hall, a defensive coach in Regina at the time.
Strasser was the receivers coach in Montreal from 2002-’04 and then became offensive co-ordinator from 2005-’06.
In 2005, Strasser guided a high-powered Alouettes offence that led the CFL in points scored (592) and passing yards (5,556). Under his tutelage, several receivers have reached CFL all-star status including Ed Hervey, Terry Vaughn, Kez McCorvey, Ben Cahoon, Pat Woodcock and Keith Stokes.
