Eskimos continue to tweak roster

Edmonton Eskimos head coach Danny Macocia tweaked his training camp roster once again on Tuesday.
For the second day in a row, the Eskimos brought three players into the fold and released three.
The Eskimos announced the signings of three free-agent import players: defensive lineman Montez Murphy, kicker Tony Yelk and running back Shermar Bracey.
Murphy, 26, is six-foot-six and tips the scales at 260 pounds. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in May 2006 but was released during training camp and joined the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice roster in September 2006. He played one game with the Chiefs on special teams.
“Murphy comes to us highly recommended,” Macocia said. “He has great size and we think he’ll be able to add something to our defensive line.”
The East St. Louis, Ill., native started 19 games at Baylor University and finished his college career with 72 tackles, 141/2 tackles for losses, 51/2 quarterback sacks, five forced fumbles and three knockdowns.
“He had the third-highest number of quarterback sacks at Baylor,” Macocia said.
Macocia also pointed out that the Eskimos have a surplus of Canadians on the defensive line.
Yelk, who handled punting duties during his first three seasons at Iowa State and was a kickoff specialist during his senior year, is the latest candidate the Eskimos have recruited to possibly replace all-purpose kicker Sean Fleming, who retired after last season.
Yelk, a first-team freshman All-American in 2001, had a 41.4-yard average on 73 punts in his junior year.
