Eskimos want more offence in 2008

Add Eskimos quarterback Ricky Ray to the list of people in Edmonton bored and frustrated with the conservative approach to offence deployed, in recent time, by the home team at Commonwealth Stadium.

Enough with the vanilla stuff. The undisputed starting quarterback can’t wait for the Eskimos offence to look less, well, defensive for a change.

“Offensively, the last few years, we’ve just been a little bit too dink-and-dunk,” Ray said Saturday morning in a break from fitness testing. “We’ve got to get some more big plays, and we’re going to really stress that in training camp to throw the ball down field a little bit more.

“At least if we’re not completing them, we’re scaring some people.”

The number of new faces in the Eskimos dressing room is downright scary as training camp kicks off today at Clarke Park.

Gone are a total of 31 players who finished the 2007 football season in Green and Gold.

The list of dearly departed include the likes of kicker Sean Fleming (retired), linebacker A.J. Gass (retired), fullback Mike Maurer (retired), cornerback Omarr Morgan (released), and tailback Tyler Ebell (traded.)
