Esks bring in O’Mahony

With training camp only days away, the Edmonton Eskimos have lined up yet another kicking candidate as a potential replacement for the retired Sean Fleming.

The Esks acquired veteran punter Duncan O’Mahony from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft.

O’Mahony, 31, has a rather checkered past in his six CFL seasons as both a punter and a field goal kicker with Calgary and the B.C. Lions. He has a Grey Cup ring from 2001 in Calgary. But he also went missing in May 2006 when he was supposed to show up for training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His disappearance was never explained, and he never played for the Bombers.
