The Edmonton Eskimos, seeking to build a bridge back to the playoffs, locked up their cornerstone player Wednesday by re-signing quarterback Ricky Ray.
Ray signed a four-year deal (three-years plus an option) though terms were not disclosed.
The Eskimos also announced they have promoted quarterbacks coach Rick Worman to offensive co-ordinator. ”This is where I got my start. I’ve had some great years here. I just feel at home here,” Ray told reporters in a news conference at Commonwealth Stadium.
Ray was slated to become a free agent Feb. 15. His last contract reportedly paid him over $450,000, making him the league’s highest paid player.
The 28-year-old native of Happy Camp, Calif., has spent his entire five-year career with the Eskimos, interrupted by a brief stint with the New York Jets of the NFL.
