Fans asking questions in Edmonton

Courtesy Edmonton Journal:

Kamau Peterson cruises cyberspace on a semi-regular basis to check the temperature of the Edmonton Eskimos’ fan base.

It’s only Week 2 of the regular season, but the Canadian pass catcher found the conditions scorching hot after the Eskimos’ 34-13 loss Saturday to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Venomous? Absolutely. Scornful? You bet.

“I’m kind of numb to that type of thing,” said Peterson, who goes by the handle of kp8 on eskfans.com.

“It doesn’t help or hurt my game in any way at all. I just go on there and try to provide my perspective if I can and see if I can give the fans a little jolt of what’s really going on.”

The Eskimos hit the field tonight amid a fan-fed football firestorm not seen in this city since Tom Higgins called an ill-fated punt fake in the 2004 Western Division semifinal.

Less than 48 hours later, the man also known as Ned Flanders stepped down as head coach. Danny Maciocia took over and won the Grey Cup the next year.

Alas, the honeymoon did not last. In cyberspace, the cries for Macioica’s job are endless. So are pained calls for some semblance of a running attack.

Other fans wax poetic over the disturbing propensity of the offence to stall in the shadow of the goalposts like a broken-down lawnmower.
