Flemons and a January speak about trade to Saskatchewan

Ronald Flemons and Glenn January aren’t feeling any additional pressure as the newest members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The former Toronto Argonauts are happily adjusting to being Roughriders. Flemons, a defensive lineman, and January, an offensive tackle, were acquired by the Roughriders in Wednesday’s trade that saw quarterback Kerry Joseph and a third-round pick in the 2010 Canadian college draft sent to the Argos. The Riders also acquired the Argos’ first-round pick in 2008 and a second-round selection in the 2010 draft.

“There is pressure from me to perform for myself,” Flemons, 28, said Thursday from Grande Prairie, Alta., where he’s living with his wife Jessica. “I can’t control what happens outside of me. I can only control what I can do. I have to get better all of the time and that’s what I have to do.”

January, 24, was reached Thursday on the way to his Houston home from Dallas where he trains. He has heard about the uproar in Regina over the Roughriders trading the league’s reigning most outstanding player. January wasn’t that surprised about the controversy the trade has created.

“Anytime that you trade the league’s most outstanding player for a pair of linemen whose names aren’t said all of the time is going to be weird for people at first,” January said. “The way I look at it is Saskatchewan filled a couple of their needs.”
