Jamacia Jackson: Irregular heart beat cause of death

A coroner said yesterday that linebacker Jamacia Jackson, who spent last season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, died from an irregular heartbeat caused by an enlarged heart.

The 26-year-old Jackson was found unresponsive Monday at his girlfriend’s home and was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Sumter County coroner Verna Moore said that an autopsy revealed Jackson likely had an enlarged heart for years.

Jackson, a native of Sumter, S.C., spent last season with the Ticats after signing with the CFL club as a free agent Jan. 11, 2007.

He signed with the NFL’s New York Giants in 2006 but was allocated to NFL Europe and was selected in the 16th round by the Berlin Thunder. He attended Berlin’s training camp but was released March 5 and subsequently cut loose by the Giants two weeks later.
