Joseph named player of week

Saskatchewan quarterback Kerry Joseph was named offensive player of the week Thursday after leading the Roughriders to a 26-24 win over Calgary in the CFL West Division semifinal last weekend.
Joseph, a unanimous pick, had 391 passing yards and one touchdown pass in Saskatchewan’s first home playoff game in 19 years. He added 109 yards on 14 carries.
Saskatchewan kicker Luca Congi was named special teams player of the week and teammate Andy Fantuz took the honours as top Canadian.
Congi was good on six of eight field-goal attempts and added one single. Winnipeg kicker Troy Westwood was runner-up. Fantuz was a unanimous pick after catching six passes for 127 yards, both career post-season highs.
Winnipeg linebacker Barrin Simpson was named defensive player of the week after helping the Blue Bombers to a 24-22 victory over the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division semifinal.
Simpson stuffed the run on two key third-down plays during the game and finished with eight tackles. Eddie Davis and Reggie Hunt of the Roughriders were also considered.
