If the Toronto Argonauts can take something positive from losing to a team that went 3-15 last season and hadn’t won in Toronto since 2001, it might be its running game.

Newcomer Jamal Robertson and veteran Dominique Dorsey showed flashes of brilliance in a 28-21 CFL pre-season loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at the Rogers Centre.

Robertson, a well-travelled Saskatchewan Roughrider hopeful before being shipped east to replace the injured Tyler Ebell, looked particularly strong in rushing for 89 yards on only nine carries.

Dorsey saved most of his flash for kick returns, including a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown that was negated by a penalty, but did manage 35 of the team’s 153 yards on the ground.

“I’ve got two No. 1 backs,” said head coach Rich Stubler. “We’ve got a guy with great quicks and moves to the outside (Dorsey) and another who can drop his shoulder and slash and has great acceleration coming out of it. They’re two special guys.”

Robertson deflected credit for his impressive outing.
