WINNIPEG - B.C. linebacker Otis Floyd was following years of training when he made a play that sealed a 26-20 win over the Blue Bombers Friday night.
Floyd ripped the ball out of Winnipeg running back Charles Roberts’ hands on the one-yard line with 47 seconds remaining and Lions defensive back Ryan Phillips pounced on the ball for the crushing turnover.
“All my life when I was playing little league football they always taught us when you tackle strip the ball,” Floyd said.
“I seen my opportunity and I got the ball right where I needed it and I just stripped it out. It was a relief because they were marching down the field. Great teams and big players make big plays.”

It was the Lions’ fourth straight win and kept them atop the CFL standings and West Division with a 10-3-1 Record.
The East Division-leading Bombers dropped to 8-5-1 in front of 26,593 fans sitting for much of the night in a rainy, windy Canad Inns Stadium.
Floyd said he believes the two clubs could be headed for a showdown in the Grey Cup.
“It’s going to be a battle in Toronto - not as cold,” Floyd said with a smile.
“If they keep winning and we keep winning, it’ll be a great Grey Cup.”
Lions quarterback Jarious Jackson ran in a five-yard touchdown and threw a TD toss to Jason Clermont. Running back Joe Smith notched his 16th TD of the season on a one-yard run and Bret Anderson booted two field goals with the wind from 44 and 41 yards for B.C.’s scoring.
B.C. veteran kicker Paul McCallum did the punting, but his field-goal capabilities were iffy going into the game because of a badly bruised hip so Anderson took over the duties.
CFL-leading receiver Terrence Edwards had a 35-yard TD catch, Milt Stegall added a 15-yard TD reception and Rob Pikula had a field goal and 78-yard punt single for Winnipeg. Anderson also conceded a safety.
Jackson completed 17 of 33 pass attempts for 241 yards, one TD and one interception.
Bomber quarterback Kevin Glenn was 21-of-32 for 285 yards, two TDs and one interception.
