Lions door to Casey Printers open, but just a little
Courtesy Vancouver Province:
Casey Printers came off as himself during a 20-minute interview on TEAM 1040 with Glen Suitor, aired at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday.
By that I mean he’s not the jerk he’s made out to be by his detractors, but he’s flawed as, well, we all are.
We all agree he’s a great athlete.
He’s also pretty good at deflecting blame, and he did it with Suits Tuesday.
Printers had nothing but great things to say about Wally Buono, whom he called a “father figure” that he phoned for advice after being cut by Hamilton.
My experiences with Printers are that he was agreeable, not aloof at all, but not that forthcoming and not that analytical.
And by the way, I believe Buono made the right call in starting Dave Dickenson in the 2004 Grey Cup and there wasn’t an opportune time to yank him.
If Duncan O’Mahony had been able to punt the ball further than 15 yards, the Lions would have won that game.
“In fairness to Casey, he was young,” Buono said later on The TEAM about Printers’ parting shots at the Lions before his failed NFL attempt, “all that attention to one individual, it’s tough to deal with.
“A lot has happened since [he left the Lions with a grudge].”
Buono said he wouldn’t “upset the apple cart” by inviting Printers back, but also said he wouldn’t close the door to that option.
He implied it would take an injury to a starting quarterback for Printers to get another CFL shot.
“Put in the right situation he could still be a good quarterback,” Buono said.
