Lloyd, Williams out for Edmonton-Calgary showdown
Courtesy Edmonton Journal:
The Edmonton Eskimos will be without Maurice Lloyd and Lenny Williams for Thursday’s CFL game against the Calgary Stampeders and a number of others are bruised and hurting but will play.
Head coach Richie Hall said Tuesday that middle linebacker Lloyd and defensive back Williams both have leg injuries that will keep them out of the game. Rookie Rod Davis will replace Lloyd in the middle and Bobby Keyes will start in place of Williams.
“We liked what we saw in training camp,” Hall said of Davis.
“He’s very talented, with good size. He’s everything you want in that position — athletic, a good space player, a sure tackler. We’re fortunate to have him.”
Hall said with Lloyd and Williams out, offensive lineman John Comiskey and defensive lineman Eric Taylor missing practice Tuesday, the game will be a test of the team’s depth.
“It will be a test for our depth and four the players who dress,” he said. “The 42 we put out there have to perform regardless if they’re banged up or not.”
Receiver Maurice Mann, who sat out last Saturday’s loss in Hamilton, practised hard Tuesday and is expected to play.
“He’s looking good out there,” said Hall.
“You know he’s well because you can hear him … that means he’s enthusiastic and he’s ready to play.”
