The bad news continues to pile up for the B.C. Lions.

The CFL team, which has dropped its opening two regular-season games, learned Monday that veteran kicker Paul McCallum is out indefinitely with a right knee injury.

A team official said McCallum, 39, suffered the injury in B.C’s 31-28 home-opening loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night. McCallum was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday but is expected to miss seven-to-eight weeks.

McCallum was injured trying to tackle Hamilton’s Marquay McDaniel during a punt return. McCallum also reportedly suffered a broken wrist attempting to make the tackle.

Backup kicker Sean Whyte, a native of Surrey, B.C., is currently on the club’s injured list but could be activated in time for the Lions’ game against Edmonton on Thursday night. Whyte spent the previous two seasons on B.C.’s practice roster, and has never appeared in a CFL game.
