Montreal: Warrick has something to prove
Courtesy Montreal Gazette:
A military base in a town he has never heard of in a foreign country probably is the last place Peter Warrick thought he would be, attempting to salvage what once seemed to be a promising football career.
But at least the former National Football League receiver has come north with the right attitude.
“A lot of (U.S.) players think (the Canadian Football League) is a lower level. But football’s all the same,” said Warrick, who turns 31 on June 19. “It seems like they work harder here.”
Anyone who follows pro football should be aware of Warrick. He was selected fourth overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2000, signing a seven-year contract that could have reached $42-million U.S., with incentives. In his rookie season, Warrick, according to published reports, was paid more than $10 million in signing and reporting bonuses.
Warrick spent five seasons with the Bengals, posting mostly pedestrian statistics. His best season was 2003, when he caught 79 passes for 819 yards, scoring seven touchdowns.
