Pearson’s season ends with broken leg

REGINA — The image of his fallen offensive linemate being hauled off in an ambulance made it difficult for Argos centre Chad Folk to celebrate his team’s big victory.
Late in yesterday afternoon’s demolition of the Roughriders, Folk rolled awkwardly over the leg of left tackle Mike Pearson, snapping the ex-NFLer’s right ankle and ending his season.
“I feel sick to my stomach,” said Folk, who was rushing to catch a flight home where his wife is expecting twins any day now.
“When you lose one of your guys like that, the game really doesn’t matter. It’s hard for me to celebrate.”
It will be even harder to replace Pearson, who was settling in nicely as Argos quarterback Michael Bishop’s key blind-side protector.
MOVE TO THE LEFT
For the remainder of yesterday’s game, Glenn January moved from his right tackle spot to the left side where he was replaced by Brian Ramsay.
The improved play of the offensive line in recent weeks had been encouraging and Pearson, who was signed by the Argonauts in June, was a big reason for that.
“He is as good a tackle as there is in this league,” said veteran guard Jude St. John.
“In a game that was pretty much sealed, to have that happen takes something away.”
The Argos had another injury scare yesterday when kicker Noel Prefontaine became woozy after a first-half hit and spent the rest of the game on the bench.
Argos coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons said the team was worried about concussion-like symptoms that had kept Prefontaine out of the lineup earlier in the season.
