The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed three import receivers Wednesday.
The Riders signed DaVon Fowlkes, Roosevelt Kiser and Princeton Shepherd to contracts of one year plus an option. Financial details of the signings were not released.
Fowlkes (5-foot-8 and 170 pounds) signed with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2006. He dressed in six games where he recorded five receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 14 kickoffs for 217 yards and 26 punts for 243 yards and was the special teams player-of-the-week (14) in 2006.
Fowlkes signed as an undrafted with the Indianapolis Colts in 2005, but was released prior to the season. Prior to his pro career, Fowlkes spent four seasons at Appalachian State where he was a teammate of current Rider offensive lineman Wayne Smith. Fowlkes holds the all-time receiving mark at Appalachian State with 204 catches for 3,049 yards 23 touchdowns. He also holds the Southern Conference all-time career punt total yardage record with 1,328.
Kiser (5-foot-9 and 175 pounds) signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was released prior to the start of the 2007 season. He spent four seasons at Florida A&M where he finished his college career with 191 catches for 2,374 yards and 19 touchdowns. The two-time all-conference receiver also returned kicks and punts. Kiser finished his college career with 4,519 all-purpose yards.
