Riders hire Etcheverry as assistant defensive coach

Saskatchewan Roughrider head coach Ken Miller announced today Gary Etcheverry has joined the team as a defensive assistant coach.

“We are very pleased to have someone of Gary’s credentials join our staff,” stated Ken Miller. “Coach Etcheverry has an amazing defensive mind and is a great instructor of the fundamentals. He is a great addition and will work well with Richie Hall’s defensive staff.”

Etcheverry last coached in the CFL in 2004 when he was the defensive coordinator with the Ottawa Renegades. In 2002, he spent the year as the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts.

In 2001, he was the defensive coordinator for the B.C. Lions and held the same position with the Roughriders in 2000. Etcheverry joined the CFL in 1997 as a defensive line coach with the Toronto Argonauts. He spent two seasons as the defensive line coach in Toronto before being promoted to the defensive coordinator position in 1999.
