Courtesy TSN.ca:

Saskatchewan Roughriders tackle Wayne Smith is out for the entire 2009 CFL season after he ruptured his left Achilles tendon.

Smith, a six-year veteran, injured himself while working out and was expected to undergo surgery Thursday night.

“Our hearts go out to Wayne after suffering such a tough injury,” Roughriders coach Ken Miller said in a statement.

“Wayne is a consummate pro and is a leader in our locker-room. While it will be tough for Wayne and the entire team to lose him on the field in 2009, we look forward to having his positive attitude and influence in the locker-room throughout the year.”

Smith, a Toronto native, started 15 games for Saskatchewan in 2008
