Hall always second fiddle?
At 5-foot-6, Richie Hall would appear to be ideally suited for a short list.
But will he ever get beyond that? You really have to wonder.
On Tuesday, the Montreal Alouettes confirmed that Marc Trestman will be their head coach. Trestman — who is virtually bereft of CFL coaching experience — was chosen from among a list of candidates that included Hall.
Last year, Hall was one of four people whom Saskatchewan Roughriders’ general manager Eric Tillman considered as a replacement for head coach Danny Barrett. Hall had been the Roughriders’ assistant head coach and defensive co-ordinator, but Tillman went in another direction and appointed Kent Austin. Good idea. Austin is a lock to be named the CFL’s coach-of-the-year.
Two years ago, Hall was also interviewed when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were searching for a head coach. That job went to Doug Berry, whose Bombers lost 23-19 to Saskatchewan in the 2007 Grey Cup.
