Disappointed they didn’t become head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, assistants Richie Hall and Mike Gibson were still honoured to be interviewed by general manager Eric Tillman.
“Like I mentioned to Mr. Tillman, there’s only going to be one head coach just like there’s only going to be one Grey Cup champion,” Hall, who has been a Roughriders assistant for 14 years, said Monday. “You would like it to be you or your team, but if it isn’t, that’s life. The sun came up the next day. It was a disappointing thing. But am I angry? No. Am I mad? No. For what?
“What would I be frustrated about? Me as a person, my career, isn’t defined by whether I get a head coaching position. If I do, that’s fine. If I don’t, that’s fine. I get to do what I enjoy doing, that’s coaching. And being able to work with the young men I’ve been able to work with, I’m blessed. I’m thankful for the situation.”
