Saskatchewan Delivers Win in 95th Grey Cup

TORONTO — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have won the Grey Cup for only the third time in their history with a 23-19 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Roughriders took the lead in the fourth quarter with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Andy Fantuz, who was named most outstanding Canadian, and never looked back.

James Johnson, the most outstanding player of the game, intercepted Ryan Dinwiddie three times in game, setting a Grey Cup record.

The Riders had the largely green crowd behind them for the entire game, but struggled on offence.

The Roughriders conceded three safeties during the game, tying a Grey Cup record.

A 12-yard field goal by Luca Congi at 11:11 of the third quarter had put the Riders ahead 16-14.

Derick Armstrong’s 50-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter made it 14-13 for the Bombers.

A sack by John Chick early in the third on Winnipeg’s Ryan Dinwiddie resulted in a fumble, which was recovered by Riders’ Scott Schultz. This led to a Congi field goal.

The Roughriders scored a touchdown in the first half after James Johnson intercepted a pass by Dinwiddie intended for Milt Stegall. Johnson ran the ball back 30 yards for the score.

The Roughriders’ Congi missed a 42-yard field goal early in the first quarter.
