Not only did Greg Marshall learn Saturday night he no longer was in the running to be the Alouettes’ next head coach, it appears he was asked at the same time by general manager Jim Popp if he would join Montreal as the defensive coordinator.

“I made it clear I applied for one position,” the Winnipeg defensive coordinator revealed yesterday by telephone from his Edmonton home.

Marshall, who remains under contract to the Blue Bombers, refused to confirm or deny he was offered a lateral move by Popp, but intimated the conversation took place.
