A representative of defensive tackle Keith Shologan, the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ first-round draft choice in 2008, has been in contact with the CFL team following his release by the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.
“We had a brief but very favourable conversation with his representation,” Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman said Friday evening.
“We will pursue him (today) or Sunday, after we finish what we’re working on now.”
The Roughriders’ coaches and management were trimming their roster to get to the CFL-mandated limit of 46 protected players. The team could waive up to 20 players before tonight’s roster deadline.
Tillman said the Roughriders had also been discussing trade possibilities with other CFL teams.
Shologan, 6-foot-2 and 285 pounds, is a University of Central Florida product who was selected fourth overall in the CFL college draft. He was touted as a top pick by several CFL teams, although they were concerned about his NFL aspirations.
