Simplifying is the key

Look for the Edmonton Eskimos to follow the KISS principle next season — keep it simple, stupid.
“I think we need to get back to some of the basics,” said re-signed Eskimo quarterback Ricky Ray on Wednesday as the team announced his four-year contract extension.
“We need to simplify things,” echoed Eskimos head coach Danny Maciocia.
For one thing, hand signalling of plays from the sidelines, a practice employed with gusto by fired offensive co-ordinator Jacques Chapdelaine last year, will likely be eliminated.
The feeling was that under Chapdelaine, there was too much confusion.
Said Ray: “Picking up all the sign language was one of the toughest parts” of being able to effectively run the offence.
Ray and Maciocia both believe the talent is there for the team to succeed.
“We’re only four or five — maybe six — players from realizing our objective going into training camp,” said Maciocia.
