Taaffe wants to stay positive

That’s what Tiger-Cat head coach Charlie Taaffe came up with yesterday when asked if there was one thing he would like to see his team do better for its second contest of the season.

“Don’t play tentative. Don’t play fearing to fail. Play to win. Put it out there on the line with no regrets and don’t look back.

“No one has put any pressure on any of these players. Just go out and enjoy it, and play hard and smart and play to win,” he said.

There’s no question the Tiger-Cats were terrible in their season-opening 33-10 loss to Montreal Thursday night. But their head coach saw some positives. Tre Smith enjoyed a good outing. Scott Mitchell bounced back from a poor start to make some nice catches, as did Eddie Cohen. And Casey Printers completed 70 per cent of his passes.

“There were some positive things on offence. But the dropped balls, penalties, and the turnovers, that killed us offensively.

“We had 10 guys play their first game as Ticats,” Taaffe added.

Now the Tabbies have to regroup and do it in the Rogers Centre.

The team’s June 16 pre-season victory aside, the Ticats have lost their past nine-straight games after making the jaunt down the QEW. The last time Hamilton pulled two points out of Hogtown was July 20, 2001.
