Ticats denied access to Taman

It appears you can strike Brendan Taman’s name off the list of candidates to take over the reins in Hamilton.

According to the Winnipeg Sun, the Blue Bombers denied a request from the Tiger-Cats to speak to the Blue Bombers’ general manager about the same post in Hamilton.

“Why would I say yes?” Blue Bombers president and CEO Lyle Bauer told the Winnipeg Sun. “If they called for Milt Stegall, Terrence Edwards or Doug Brown, what would I say?”

Taman, who led the Blue Bombers to a berth in the Grey Cup, will be entering the final year of his contract.

“Brendan has a proven track record here in bringing talent,” Bauer told the Sun. “All you gotta do is look at this year. You can also look at the rookies of the year and the runners-up and other star players he’s brought in. He’s done a good job here.”

The report indicates that CFL teams usually grant permision to other teams if members of their staff are interviewed for promotions. But Taman’s move would be a lateral one to a divisional opponent, which perhaps explains the Bombers’ reluctance to honour the request.
