Ticats want to lure free agents

Another Canadian Football League free agent deadline is set to expire. And once again, to the surprise of no one, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be buyers.

That’s what happens when a franchise only wins three games after winning just four the year before and just five the year before that. They need experienced help and have room under the league-mandated $4.2 million salary cap.

The free-agent deadline expires at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow.

But the free-agent pool is rather shallow notwithstanding the presence of several big fish in the likes of Toronto receiver Tony Miles, Winnipeg rush end Tom Canada and offensive tackle Dan Goodspeed, Saskatchewan linebacker Reggie Hunt and their own linebacker, JoJuan Armour.

The Ticats need receiving help, a situation that became even more dire with the trade this week of receiver Brock Ralph. That has left them with just two returning Canadian pass catchers in Jason French and Chris Bauman.
