Tiger Cats might bring in 7 QBs
Courtesy Hamilton Spectator:
Hamilton Tiger-Cat training camp may not open until the first week of June but the competition at quarterback is already under way.
The team is reportedly in discussion with two quarterbacks on their negotiation list — Rice University standout Chase Clement and Jason Boltus, who played for the Hartwick Hawks in NCAA Division 3.
That’s in addition to the two QBs signed earlier in the off-season — Erik Meyer and Josh Betts.
And don’t forget the holdovers from last season, incumbent starter Quinton Porter and Adam Tafralis. Or veteran free-agent pick up Kevin Glenn.
That’s seven, in case you’ve lost count.
“We have to get the quarterback situation resolved,” said GM Bob O’Billovich last week.
He’d like to have four QBs on his 75-man roster when rookie camp opens June 3 but may bring in a fifth before cutting one when main camp opens June 7.
Porter and Glenn won’t be at rookie camp and O’Billovich said the team was pleased by Tafralis’ performance during limited action last season. The former San Jose State player, who signed with the Cats last September, will be at rookie camp.
That means just one or two of Clement, Boltus, Meyer and Betts will make the trip to Hamilton. The team has been scouting all four players.
“We’re going to have to make some decisions,” O’Billovich said.
