Toronto: Mayes chance is now
Courtesy Toronto Star:
Adrian Mayes has been waiting a long time for this.
When the sophomore Toronto Argonauts linebacker takes the field for the opening defensive series against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday, it will mark almost four years between starts. It will also be his first professional football start on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, if you keep track of those kinds of things.
“I’m very excited to get an opportunity to get in there and get some playing time,” said Mayes, who got his chance when veteran Kevin Eiben suffered a knee injury last week against Edmonton.
“You never know when the opportunity is going to present itself, so you have to be ready to take full advantage of it.”
When it comes to preparing to step into the breech, few are more practised than the 27-year-old Houston native.
