Trestman commands respect

If it’s true you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, it seems new Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman pushed all the right buttons and said the proper and necessary things following the opening weekend of training camp.
That means, at first glance, he appears to have the respect of veteran players. And that, as the season progresses, will speak volumes about the level of success this team achieves.
“I was very impressed. He’s prepared and sure of himself. He has vision and direction,” said slotback Ben Cahoon, who has become the conscience of this team heading into his 11th Canadian Football League season - all with Montreal.
“He exudes true leadership. I came away sold,” he added.
Trestman, who has spent close to two decades in the National Football League as an offensive co-ordinator and assistant, addressed the Als for the first time Saturday afternoon before a pair of workouts yesterday at Stade Haut-Richelieu.
“It was just more his … not necessarily what he said, but how he said it,” said Cahoon, who has now played for six head coaches during his Montreal tenure. “He had command of the room.
“Obviously, everybody’s curious to see his approach. But he already has earned our respect, because of his command of the game. He exudes knowledge and experience.”
