Riders Lay Smack down on Als
courtesy TSN:
REGINA - The Saskatchewan Roughriders posted over 500 total yards, helped by 142 yards from receiver Andy Fantuz, to beat the Montreal Alouettes 33-22.
Saskatchewan beat Montreal twice in one season for the first time since the Alouettes’ re-entry into the CFL in 1997.
The `Riders had a total of 502 yards, while the defence brought down Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo five times.
Roughrider quarterback Kerry Joseph completed 26 of 40 attempted passes for 355 yards, while Anthony Calvillo went 27-for-41 for 410 yards.
Damon Duval opened the scoring for Montreal with a field goal followed by a single.
The first major of the game was finally scored halfway through the second quarter when Joseph found Fantuz in the end zone.
Later on in the quarter D.J. Flick watched a Joseph pass bounce off of Alouette Chip Cox before hauling it in for a touchdown, his ninth of the season.
Luca Congi added a field goal, and the `Riders went into the locker room at halftime up 19-4, with the `Rider offence posting 308 yards compared to the Alouettes’ 130.
Roughrider Corey Holmes scored twice in the third quarter. He first ran the ball a yard for a touchdown, then followed it up the next drive with a 16-yard catch in the end zone.
It looked like Duval would be Montreal’s only scorer for the quarter with a field goal at the beginning, but Jarrett Payton found the end zone with a one-yard run as the clock ran down.
As the fourth quarter began, punter Jamie Boreham kept the ball in `Rider hands as he touched the ball in an attempt to recover his own punt. The football was then jumped on by Dustin Cherniawski.
The Alouettes had one touchdown in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to come back, as the `Riders held on for the victory. A last-minute touchdown attempt by Brad Banks was caught by the `Riders James Johnson.

WINNIPEG (CP) — Slotback Milt Stegall sat in his locker stall with ice wrapped on his bruised shoulder, but any pain was eased by the Blue Bombers’ 21-19 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Saturday night.
In a game that featured four turnovers by each club, Winnipeg scored 17 points off the Tiger-Cats’ turnovers, while Hamilton put up 16 points off Winnipeg turnovers.
Running back Charles Roberts notched a touchdown on a one-yard run, Derick Armstrong caught a 30-yard TD pass and Troy Westwood booted a pair of field goals and added a single for Winnipeg’s points.
Hamilton got its scoring from an 11-yard Kori Dickerson TD catch and three field goals and three singles from kicker Nick Setta.
“Offensively, we didn’t do too well, I didn’t do too well,” said Stegall, who dropped a potential first-quarter touchdown reception in the end zone.
“It was ugly, but we got the victory and that’s our only concern.”
Stegall said his bruised shoulder, which kept him out of last week’s loss to Toronto, but won’t make him miss next Friday’s game at home against B.C.
The win boosts the Bombers’ record to 8-4-1, keeping them atop the CFL East Division and stretching their lead to five points ahead of Montreal and Toronto, both at 6-7.
Lions Romp Stampeders

VANCOUVER — Jarious Jackson threw three touchdown passes and Joe Smith ran for another as the B.C. Lions pounded the Calgary Stampeders 42-9 in CFL play Saturday night.
Jackson, who moved up the depth chart after injuries to Dave Dickenson and Buck Pierce, improved his record to 4-2 as a starter. He methodically picked the Stampeder defence apart with pin-point passes, then showed his mobility with several key runs.
Calgary, playing without injured quarterback Henry Burris, trailed 14-1 with 6:30 gone in the game and never recovered.
Things got worse when Akili Smith, the former NFL first-round pick who was making his first CFL start in place of Burris, limped off with about five minutes left in the second quarter with a slight groin pull after being sacked by Korey Banks.
The most effective weapon Calgary had was running back Joffery Reynolds.
Knowing they had the Stampeders on the ropes, the Lion defence made things miserable for inexperienced backup Barrick Nealy. He spent much of the game running for his life and took some brutal hits.
Jackson threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jason Clermont, connected on a nine-yard play with Paris Jackson and found Lyle Green on a two-yard score.
Smith, who had over 100 yards rushing, scored on a 15-yard run.
Defensive back Jerome Dennis added to the rout by blocking a punt, then returning the ball 20 yards for a touchdown.
Paul McCallum kicked field goals of 38 and 23 yards for the Lions. He also had a 39-yard single.
The Lions defence prevented Calgary from scoring a touchdown, sending a crowd of 32,263 home happy.
The Stampeders managed points off two safeties. Sandro DeAngelis kicked a 35-yard field goal and punter Duncan O’Mahony added a pair of singles.
The Lions, who won their third game in a row, improved to 9-3-1. They remain first in the CFL West, three points ahead of Saskatchewan.
The Stampeders, who suffered their second consecutive loss, dropped to 6-6-1 but remain third in the West.
